A DIFFERENT WAY OF THINKING

CAN I BE HONEST WITH YOU FOR A MINUTE?

Things have been kind of rough around my house the last couple of months. I received some pretty bad news that really put me in a tailspin and made blogging — or doing anything creative for that matter — impossible. I managed the day to day things that I could just plod through, but anything that needed that “spark” just wasn’t happening.

Just this week I tried to take the first steps to make a major change in my life. It only required I accomplish something that I used to be able to do without much difficulty. I only had a few days to come up to speed, and in the end, I just couldn’t do it. Not so great for the ego, I must admit. And while I’ve been trying to shake it off, I’ve spent a lot more time than usual playing games of solitaire.

INSPIRATION SOMETIMES COMES IN THE STRANGEST FORMS.

SolitaireI was playing Spider solitaire. I play with 2 suits/colors. And my mindset has always been black vs red – like the two colors were in competition with each other. In my head I would root for one color and then the other. (It’s really rather silly, if you think about it!) But today I did something different. I changed from an adversarial point of view to a cooperative point of view. And a game I’ve been trying to win for a few days suddenly was easy-peasy.

It’s amazing what a simple change of thought can do.

What simple change could make a world of difference for you?
